What IS this?

The street team is a loose organization of fans using their resources to help spread the word about what I’m doing.  There aren’t any rules or requirements; if you’re interested you can do whatever you’d like to do to help!  The only thing I’d like from you is your email address, even if you’re already on my mailing list; that way I can contact Street Team members separately from the main list for special stuff that won’t be available to everyone else.  If you want to get involved, just send an email to: sethhoran@yahoo.com with the subject, “STREET TEAM: [your city or college here]”.

What’s involved?

There are different areas you can help out with, loosely categorized here:

MYSPACE:

This has fast become THE new way for people to get exposed to independent music. If you have your own page on Myspace.com, I need your help! Please list me FIRST where it says "Music" on your page, and if you haven't added me as a friend to your profile, please do! If you're not already on Myspace, it's absolutely free to sign up for a profile page, and it's easy and fun to surf around and help spread the word about the most fantabulous solo bassist you know.

Booking Shows
If you happen to hang out at the cool coffeehouse downtown, or if you have a cool small concert series at your college, you can help bring me out for a show!
I find out about a lot of great clubs and schools from fans, but it’s not always easy to get booked if the people in charge don’t think anyone knows who I am.  I’m looking for people to submit my music and let booking agents and college activities boards know about me (or for people to actually JOIN their activities board for me!!); this job usually takes a little in-person  communication and a few follow-up phone calls or emails, but can be really effective when people see that there’s a demand!

House Concerts
If dealing with booking agents isn’t your style, but you’d still like to help get me out to your town, you can host a house concert!  Some of you may know the infamous story of my first house concert experience…   we’re not necessarily looking to duplicate that here…  J    It can be a full-on house party; it can be a quiet gathering of friends who want to hear some music, and it’s not about loud sound systems and lights.  It’s about whatever you want it to be about, and I honor outlandish requests from the hosts for obscure cover songs at these things…

Show Promotion

I DO already book most of my shows myself, but I spend so much time organizing that end of things that I rarely have time to send enough posters to the venues I play, and I usually can’t be in town ahead of time to hand out flyers or tell people about the shows.  I need people to do these things, and to just tell their friends about the shows before they happen…  it can be anything from tattooing my website to your forehead to typing my next show date at the footer of your IM “away” message!!

College Radio
This is promoting, too, but as anyone who’s involved in college radio will tell you, it’s a whole different world…    Not everyone is a college radio DJ, and not everyone KNOWS a college radio DJ, but if you are one, or know one, I could sure use your support!  I’m looking for people to get my songs played on the air, and for those who understand what the College Music Journal Charts are, I’m looking for stations to put me on their charts and report me!  This is one of the most important ways that small acts get noticed by the larger world.

Selling CDs
Pretty simple; it’s something that a lot of independent acts do:  As a ‘rep’, you would buy a few CDs directly from me (at a discount, of course), and you would then play my stuff 24 hours a day in your room, your car, and at work until your friends start asking where they get a copy.  Then you bust out a brand new Seth CD and sell it to them on the spot.  ShaBLAM.  Viva la Capitalism.  J   I’m also looking for people to work the CD sales/mailing list table at shows.

If you’ve read this far, you must really be curious, and regardless of whether or not you jump on board, I thank you for being interested enough to check this out!   See you soon…
